Home to more than 6,700 lakes and 36 rivers, Texas is a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts. Below are just a few of the state’s most popular fishing spots:

Caddo Lake
Covering roughly 26,800 acres of land, Caddo Lake is dominated by aquatic vegetation. This makes it ideal for everything from largemouth and white bass to crappie and sunfish. The setting of Caddo Lake is also known for being one of Texas’ most attractive and tranquil, thanks to its mix of lily pads, cypress trees, and Spanish moss.

Choke Canyon Reservoir
Located about one hour south of San Antonio, Choke Canyon is a great spot for anglers looking to catch flathead, blue, and channel catfish. Aside from these three catfish species, the lake also features crappie and bass, along with a healthy variety of additional wildlife, including hogs and turkey.

Lake Fork
This 27,690-acre reservoir has garnered a reputation for being one of the state’s premier fishing spots for trophy-sized bass. Anglers from around the country travel to Lake Fork, just east of Dallas, to catch the next record-breaking fish.

Guadalupe River
Found near Austin, Guadalupe River maintains a good stock of fresh-water trout, thanks to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Rainbow trout are the primary draw in Guadalupe River, and they are added to the water every winter. As the water warms, these fish usually die out,, so it’s worth catching them before high summer.
